Not even Goku's glowing ball can save this movie...Well, I thought I would hate this movie more… does that count as a positive review?
Dragonball Evolution journeys alongside Goku (Justin Chatwin) whose ultra-martial arts must save the day from the evil Piccolo played by James Marsters under hilarious green make-up.
The movie then proceeds to introduce every possible Dragonball character from the wildly popular Anime cartoon. You don’t really care about them, but they’re dressed funny and the girls are kind of hot (Jamie Chung = Rrrrrow).
The self-referential jokes, such as Goku having constant Anime hair and the lecherous Master Roshi, delightfully played by Chow Yun-Fat were a treat and occasionally the fighting reaches some level of excitement. Ultimately, though, the movie is a chaotic jumble with aliens and surfer dudes mixed up with high-tech that makes less sense than the magic.
If you’re a really, really big Dragonball fan then go see this movie. You’ll enjoy all the nods to the characters and plots.
If you’re not, save your money for the real summer blockbusters. Drangonball Evolution is a confusing mess that not even a “perfect wish” from the seven dragonballs can save.
